Console form

Configuration Gate Consoles Consoles view Console form

The Console form enables you to define and edit consoles and assign printers to a console. You must define a console before you can associate it with a gate. For more information on associating a console with a gate, see Gate Console form (on page 1).

To add or edit a console:

  1. In the Hardware ID field, enter an ID that uniquely identifies the device.

The Hardware ID must uniquely identify a hardware device (printer or console). For example, if a printer with Hardware ID Test exists, you cannot add a console with Test as its Hardware ID.

When a user accesses a gate stage form using the Operations Gate menu for the first time in a session, the Select Console form (on page 1) displays to enable the user to select the Hardware ID for their console. The selected console is used to determine the default printer, or list of available printers, to print gate tickets. For more information on associating a console with a gate, see Gate Console form (on page 1).

  1. In the External Console ID field, enter an ID that is used by any external system to identify the console.

The External Console ID enables N4 to communicate with a console controlled by a third party. For example, a third party, such as LA King, Camco, or Embarcadero, may use integers (1, 2, 3...) to identify all the consoles in a terminal.

In addition, if you use the record-scan API, a third-party console system can send the selected gate lane with the External Console ID to N4 in a record-scan API message. N4 uses this information to update the Gate Lane Selected for the console. This enables a gate clerk to work more than one gate lane using the same console. In this case, you must associate all applicable gate lanes to the gate in the Gate Lane form (on page 1).

  1. Enter any optional information such as hardware location and MAC address for the console.

  2. Click Save.

The following table lists the optional fields in the Console form:

Field Label

Description

Hardware Location

Enter the physical location of the console hardware.

MAC Address

Enter the MAC address of the console hardware.

Gate Lane Selected

Is treated as a view-only field that N4 updates with the gate lane when:

  • A user associates a console with a gate lane using the Gate Console form (on page 1) or

  • N4 receives a record-scan API message with a gate lane.
